You know I'm having a big piece of cake on Sunday night.

I just had lunch with Rahim from France. He's been in town for a couple weeks hanging out, going to shows. It is freezing today so after we got soup at hale and hearty (white tuscan bean with spinach) we walked by the water in battery park and it was so windy Rahim said, "This is like the coast of Brittany, only less mountains".
Rahim also said that the worst coffee here is dunkin' donuts. He won't drink it again. The best is someplace in williamsburg on north 11th.

I went to my beg. Modern dance class wed night. The teacher remembered me. It's been so long but she's so nice.
Everytime I think I don't like the class cause of boring warm ups or too many arm things or I hate looking at myself in those huge mirrors……when we get to the routine the last 30-40 minutes it becomes interesting and I am involved.
I liked that she made us count in sixes…accenting every sixth. It was so cool to do this really fast set of moves over slower sounding music. Like we were double time over the counts. I noticed the connection to drumming and dancing last night in a way I hadn't before.
Like I knew the connection in a vague way- that it's good to be in your body and my movement history has helped me in lots of ways with the physicality of drumming-- but this class was the first time the connection felt specific - what I was doing to land the accent every 6 counts but going back to time/or continuing the movement after the accent. Like how when i do a fill paula tells me to go back to time (or the beat) right away- not to stop the momentum. I have been nerding out thinking about this.

Plans for tonite include: pantsuit practice (show on Tuesday at bar 169), seeing boog city's Hair at st. marks church, and maybe hanging out with matt's recording clientele. If it was warm out there'd be beers on the roof but hot chocolate just sounds nicer.

Lisa li-lund and purple organ were wonderful last night at their show. And secret salamander was a more shambolic brian jonestown.
