the pixies were unbelievable. oh my god. one song after another relentless in its brilliance.
fuck.
i almost cried several times. actually when they played gigantic at the end i had chills up and down my arms and thought i was going to lose it.
thank you thank you thank you whoever gave matt & i these tickets. you made us really happy.
I am so inspired. Their song structures? fuck! the thing is, I liked the pixies 10 years ago - but i only knew their songs on a surface level. feel like the past year i've gotten more into their music like i get it. I can just really appreciate now that i play music things like kim's bass line in different songs syncing up with their drummer and then frank black's acoustic guitar and spazzy awesome vocal lines and joey's sound waves of guitar textures that frame their songs so perfectly. and dynamic? fuck!
they will be exploding really fast one minute and stop and kim & frank will sing a line and pause for exactly 2 seconds and then start exploding as a band again.
i listened to surfer rosa in its entirety on the train this morning. now it has more meaning after seeing them live. not ONLY do i love their songs but between the song talking - the production, the everything. holy smokes.
i know i'm a gushing freak i just feel very thankful a band like this exists in the world.
and now i'm off to schwervon! practice hooray!!!
