So i got to phoebe's house early in the evening to meet up with phoebe, dibs, yokoling, casey, a canadian named matt, and dan fishback. phoebe & dibs were drinking juice and gin when i arrived. i was hungry so yoko and i went to get pizza. i had a slice of the most delicious vegetable pizza you've ever eaten and then because i was still hungry i had a frankfurter roll. which was a little delicious and a little gnarly. like most meat products actually. we left en masse for the long journey to red hook. it actually only took us about an hour. F train to carroll st. and then a little walk. yoko had printed out directions from the internet (because she is smart like that). we were talking a lot about stuff like ani di franco and i was saying i really only like dilate and as much as i've tried to listen to her other cds it's difficult. i don't like that vibrato thing she does sometimes with her voice it just grates. we were also chatting about performance art and theatre and bands, dan fishback and i, and i'm getting excited for his perf. art show with pantsuit on oct. 27th. so suddenly we were near a bridge and a toll tunnel in redhook and we had to ask a copper for directions to the hook. he complied though we were afraid he'd tell us to get lost. which we already were. we got to the venue early. i didn't tell sharky yet that when i was talking to her on my cellphone casey pulled out his cell with a picture of a shark on the screen! it was almost as cool as the chicken apple sausage they were cooking up in the hook's garden. i didn't eat any i just smelled it. we had beers. tony & peggy called. i felt like they were there at the party. sam and julie were there and christy and charles and mo and rachel and david dune and jenknee and angela babyskin and james levy and more people i can't remember and i kept wishing matt was there too but he had to work. the pharmacy played first. punky fun. violent femmes basslines at times-nice and bouncy. kewl. akida dawson played songs next on acoustic guitar. he was funny and had the coolest hat but i couldn't hear very well in the back. would like to see him at a more intimate space. after akida, we waited. they were building up the anticipation. we waited some more. and then bust out rush the stage unless you're old like me and scared of flying elbows. stand on tiptoes in the back to see kimya in a white princess tutu and silver sequined headband. adam in superhero cape, steven mertens in full leotard with spandex skirt (hot), toby goodshank in neon jogging suit looking a little jersey, jack in the 80's with bandana headband. new york city's like a graveyard, who's got the blues (formerly who's got the crack), nothing came out, steak for chicken....they played the hits and they played them well. dancing and giggling and guitar solo flailings. i enjoyed it. julie pointed out the rich timbre of kimya's voice---like she sings in two ranges one very high and one low it's cool. i got some close up side views when i went to the bathroom. they were total rock stars, glittery and glowing under the stage lights. i left with julie when they had a song to go cause i was wiped out and julie had a car. rock and roll nite in brooklyn. i hope they do it again. i wanna pick pumpkins. pumpkin patches and hay bales and hot cider and halloween candy. yum. open mike tonite. hot dog! orange is the new black.
