i'm picking out a thermos for you, no ordinary thermos will do. it's got to be vinyl with stripes and a little cup too.

that's from "The Jerk", with steve martin. in case you forgot.

so dudes, my weekend was really good. just the right amount of social and non-social alone creative time.

saturday's red hook arts fest was off the hook man. farrell has new songs and katy drummed with her and i wish i would've recorded it. jesus. it was lo-fi indie cool guitar and her voice rocked and new songs. did i mention new?

me & shark had fun as pantsuit lite. we wore wigs and gave ourselves permission to be messy and crazy and say fuck it(which i realized maybe i should do at every show). we put a pair of katy's jeans on the drum kit to symbolize Tina's absence, and moved them to the monitor when we played drums.

set list was:

*gravity (a very old song of mine--i play it sometimes solo but it was new with shark doing low sweet singing backup and bass meanderings)

*Texas (we wrote this one together in seattle in 1995--it was played in bionic finger and then reworked with keyboard burlesque part in pantsuit. we were inspired on our roadtrip across the country by the very large state of texas.)

*2 headed boy--(by neutral milk hotel). shark played drums that were dynamic light bass during verses and kicking it in with snare cymbals on chorusey sections--she is a very sensitive player on both bass and drums--well any instrument really. i love it.)

*my red self (heavens to betsy song)

me behind the drums. shark on bass.

harmonies. pretty. it's about your period.

*Tina Goes to Tibet Again--this was a roughly structured improv with casio drum beat and guitar & bass plinking. some of the things we talked about were : tina eating yogurt from the dris, not the yak. going to temples to learn how to be. basically it ended with a refrain of "tina goes" over and over.

*Like Flies to Butter.

this song still feels new though it's not. i forgot a part but luckily shark stayed with me and we did the "super sleuth" part twice which made for sing along clapping from the audience which in turn made me jump and down very fast.

*********************

the leader played perhaps their shortest set ever, and i echo yoko in that they are one of my favorite bands.

talk about dynamics and subtlety. holy shit sam makes me want to practice drums like 8 hours a day.

julie's singing. shit man. deeply rooted in the gut & earth and emotional core. more please. she has this song about her brother that makes me lose it.

other dancing bands on fire: domestics and trouble dolls and jon berger. everyone MOVED a lot. danced a lot. i wish more gigs were like this!!

what a great fucking vibe.

thanks to farrell for putting it together. and exposing us to some cool shit. like mike boner and ms. tickle! and next door neighbor mike.

and art work in deliciously large studios. at times i was more interested in how these people lived- like what are their lamps and bookcases and do they have cats? - than in the artwork.

**************

sunday i rested and played keys a little and hung out with gumster.

this week is going to be drum-centric. practice for dream bitches show and schwerve/psuit lite prince show.

matt's back on thursday i can't freaking wait.

i just realized i've had a phone headset on for a half hour and i'm not on the phone.

heh.
